TPES PTA COMMITTEES
HEALTH AND WELLNESS COMMITTEE
- This is one of our largest initiatives at TPES, including our “Move More. Sit Less.” campaign
- Oversee a large committee of parents committed to more physical activity inside and outside of the classroom, as well as increased access to healthier food options for all students
- Work with the committee on presentations to the PTA; advocacy opportunities at the school and district level; and grants to support our initiative
ROOM PARENT COORDINATOR
STAFF APPRECIATION COMMITTEE
- Lead a committee that manages several staff appreciation events throughout the year, including back to school lunch and dinner; parent teacher conference dinner; and staff appreciation week
- Work with the PTA exec committee (particularly treasurer and VP for Fundraising) to get items donated and, when purchased, reimbursed
- Find ways to continue staff appreciation throughout the year, such as replacing Keurig machine if it breaks; leaving leftover bake sale items in the staff lounge, etc.
BOOK FAIR COMMITTEE
- Work with book fair company vendor
- Ensure that the Media Center is reserved through MCPS
- Create a schedule of volunteers to set-up, clean-up, and work each day of the event
- Organizing food truck / evening social event the week of the on-site Fair
- Setting up and breaking down the Book Fair
- Hanging up pre-fair marketing signs
- Helping with collecting and disbursing the financial gains from the Fair
SOCIAL SERVICES COMMITTEE
- Work with small team of volunteers to support the school guidance counselor with programs such as winter coat drives and delivery of holiday meals
- Collect snacks to keep in the counselor’s office
- Brainstorm ways to serve the families in our school community
READ-A-THON COMMITTEE
- Coordinate our largest fundraiser while instilling a love for reading
- Coordinate volunteers to collect and input reading logs; celebrate minutes read; kick-off assembly
- Communicate with teachers for incentives and coordinate coffee for kickoff
FOOD FOREST & GARDEN COMMITTEE
- Installing and maintaining food forest on school grounds, including watering, weeding, mulching to make outdoor classrooms possible
- Coordinate Gardening Club, an afterschool group
- Water and maintain indoor plants in atrium
